Introducing Wayne

The new boyfriend…

Wayne

We met on a Christmas afternoon hike with a Meetup group, and had our first date on New Year’s Eve. For once being my own pushy self paid off… I asked him to go out and it actually worked. Not right away; he says he only went out with me because he had nothing better to do, and it wasn’t until about 30 minutes into the conversation that he started to realize that he might have overlooked something. :)

As I write this we’re one day short of our two week anniversary. That doesn’t sound like very long, but we’ve only been apart for four of those days; we’ve spent a *lot* of time together. And so far, it has been almost magical; we just keep on finding more reasons why we’re perfect for each other.

I’ve had so many romantic flops in my past that I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. When is he going to figure out I’m not really as, well, fucking amazing as he thinks I am? But then I look at how comfortable we are together and how much we enjoy each other’s company and I cross all my fingers and toes that he never figures it out and we go on to happily ever after.

As I told a friend about a week ago – I feel like I just woke up in the middle of a fairy tale, and Prince Charming in his shining armor just rode up on his white steed. After all I’ve been through in the past few years… this is just unbelievable. I know it won’t be this way forever – eventually I’ll float back down to earth. But I don’t think things will be any less magical after that happens; we’ll just have gotten used to it being that way.

To answer some of the inevitable questions – he’s a sysadmin/dba (if you don’t know what that means, substitute “professional computer geek” instead :) at a local private university, which I won’t name because I don’t want his coworkers to find this post. He lives a bit south of Portland, about a 30 minute drive from my house out here in the ‘burbs. He loves dogs and tolerates cats (but they seem to like him quite a bit, since Annabelle now sits on his lap instead of mine). He likes to cook, and keeps an immaculate house (much cleaner than mine). We have many interests in common, and he seems to be pretty willing to try new things. We even mostly like the same music. That’s really miraculous! :)

As he said when he kissed me at midnight on New Year’s Eve – 2009 is looking better already.
